Easy Gravy for Mashed Potatoes
One of the best parts of your Thanksgiving meal is the mashed potatoes and gravy. However, gravy can also be one of the trickiest components to make as there are all kinds of places for it to go wrong. Follow these simple instructions and you should have delicious gravy in no time.
You will need:
1 3/4 Cups of Stock (scoop the drippings from the cooked turkey pan and add water to make 2 cups)
1/4 C Cold Water
2 Tbsp Cornstarch
In a small bowl, use a whisk to mix together the cold water and cornstarch. Make sure all the lumps are out before moving on.
Next, add the stock and cornstarch mixture into a large saucepan and start mixing with the wisk. Turn on high heat and bring to a boil, stirring frequently. Once it comes to a boil, stir constantly for one minute. It should be thickened by this point, but if it’s not, turn heat down and continue to stir until it has thickened.
If for some reason it doesn’t thicken, mix together another batch of cornstarch and cold water and add it to your pan and repeat the process.
The trick to keep the lumps out of your gravy is to make sure you’re mixing your cornstarch into cold water and getting all the lumps out BEFORE it’s introduced to the hot liquid.
This will make approximately 2 Cups of gravy.
